Frequently Asked Questions

You’re taking a big step.

Learning more about that step makes it a little easier. Here are the most common questions we get when someone is deciding to start treatment.

Your journey can start today. Our staff will guide you through the process, every step of the way. Your first step is to call (907-313-1333), or walk-in at one of our centers, or apply online. Next, you will complete an assessment and an intake application. If you have had an assessment in the last six months, we may be able to use some or all of that information to develop a treatment plan and start treatment.

Once we have an approved residential application you will be notified of your acceptance. If there is not a bed opening at that time you will be placed on the waitlist. The waitlist does have priority admissions based on modifiers, including IV users and homelessness.

They say you can’t know someone until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes. At True North, we’ve logged thousands of miles. We can truly say we’ve been where you are right now. Lived experience is at the center of our philosophy.

At True North, we don’t believe that finances should be a barrier to care. Whether you have Medicaid, private insurance or no insurance at all, we will help you get the treatment you need today.

Both our Inpatient Residential Treatment and Recovery Residence programs can support some E.M. and PED requirements upon release. If your E.M. requires a telephone line, you will be responsible for initiating and paying for that service (separately from your recovery residence program fees).

We are here to help you succeed by providing the best coordination of care for our clients. True North works closely with ASAP (Alcohol Safety Action Program), OCS (Office of Child Services) and the Therapeutic Courts on your behalf. Our staff will join you in your sessions, provide peer support and case management and help ensure your success in fulfilling the requirements of these programs while engaged in treatment.

Yes, there are many pathways to recovery, including MAT (Medication Assisted Treatment). We will customize a treatment plan that works best for you.

Everyone’s treatment program looks different, and the length of time fully depends on you and your individual needs as you work through your customized treatment plan. However, to provide a general idea of what you might expect, here are some average lengths of stays for our different treatment services:

  • Inpatient Residential Treatment: 3-5 months
  • Outpatient Treatment: 3-9 months
  • Recovery Resident: 6-12 months (there is no maximum stay)

Couples are welcome to participate in our Recovery Residence program. However, couples will not be housed in the same residence and are not permitted at any other recovery residence other than their own.

We recognize the importance of support from loved ones throughout your recovery journey. While participating in Inpatient Residential Treatment, you will have visitation opportunities for approved visitors on Sundays. Depending on your current phase in the program you will also be allowed an offsite pass. We greatly encourage families to join us at True North events that take place throughout the year.

While participating in Outpatient Treatment and Recovery Residence programs there are no restrictions on family time, provided it does not interfere with your treatment groups or peer support sessions.
